Overview

156th Royal Light Horse is Tribe's only front line regiment that has continuously remained operational since the Third Exodus and the Tribe's return to the Inner Sphere. Many military analysts agree that such high survival rate can be mostly attributed to a traditionally cheerful attitude and the laid back approach of its mechwarriors in addition to almost brutal engagement tendencies in the battle.

The symbol of 156th Light Horse has been changed to better reflect the unity of two battalions while preserving original regiment's Viking heritage. Old insignia representing a Viking with red hair locks and a beard was replaced with gold Thor's Hammer enveloped by two red dragons. The Hammer represents an ancient old struggle between the good and the evil. The dragons, known for wisdom and longevity, reflect regiment's proud history.

With the recent efforts to bring the regiment to full strength, 156th recruiting criteria have slightly relaxed. To be accepted, mechwarriors must show willingness to learn, while their prior battle experience is usually not very scrutinized. As a result, new applicants are usually easily adjusted to training and combat drills but lack the finesse of veteran warriors.

Although currently in a full recruiting swing, 156th has yet to reach the numbers it enjoyed prior to Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere.
Tactics

Even though officially classified as a reconnaissance unit, 156th Royal Light Horse is well known for causing havoc among the enemy troops at close range brawls. Regiment's mechwarriors are generally focused on a single specialty at which they perform beyond equal.

Most common tactic is a direct frontal charge against overwhelming odds. Double flanking often enhances such direct advances.

Battalion Europe

Battalion Europe mechwarriors make up deficiency in numbers compared to similarly structured battalions with brutal application of force. Most favor reducing their armor protection to dangerously low levels in favor of increased firepower. It is not uncommon that "European" Battlemechs carry firepower equal to 'Mechs one class up.

Battalion Australia

Mechwariors from "down under" are often deployed on far flanks unless they are leading the charge on the enemy position. Although other battalions try to equal them, nobody has yet succeeded in matching their ability to achieve fast missile locks and score increased number of hits even in close quarters. As a tradition, "Australians" are the most skilled users of missile based 'Mechs in the Tribe.
